Our story...

Inspired by the dream-inducing pillows from her childhood and motivated by the love of her two daughters, Mako and Yuri, a Korean-born québécois mother began producing these treasures as a hobby. Little by little, Dad became involved and this tightly-knit family got busy making their dream pouches available to everyone.

Our mandate is to create not only an aesthetically pleasing pillow but one that is ethically produced and contributes in many ways to the health and well-being of our clients, adults and children alike, as well as our employees and collaborators.

What makes a Mayukori pillow unique?

It’s a healthy pillow.

In contrast to your average pillow filled with synthetic or animal materials, Mayukori pillows are filled with hypoallergenic buckwheat hulls that promote a sound and restorative sleep. Mayukori pillows provide firm and stable support which prevent spinal tension and allow for proper circulation.

Its origins are deeply-rooted.

The shape and dimensions of these pillows are inspired by the mastery of an age-old Korean tradition.

Its an ethical pillow

Our pillows are locally made by a business called “Petites-Mains” (“Little-Hands”), that specializes in industrial sewing. This business is one of Quebec’s 43 non-profit operations that subsidizes the salaries of people who might otherwise be excluded from the workforce. This business fights against exclusion and poverty by providing skills and work experience to marginalized women.

It’s an environmentally friendly pillow.

The buckwheat hulls that fill Mayukori pillows are supplied by a Québécois organic grain farm and are ecological in that they are long-lasting and compostable. Recycled buckwheat hulls support sustainability and make an excellent filling for pillows.

It’s an aesthetic pillow.

The fabrics used for the pillowcase are made of 100% cotton and are designed by artists in touch with the lastest in fashion. With such unique, appealing, and serene designs, Mayukori pillows are excellent for a good night’s sleep.

It’s a pillow for youngsters too.

Mayukori offers a range of pillows designed especially for children from ages 2 to 12 for whom a high-quality slumber is of utmost importance. According to Dr. Weiss, sleep is crucial for not only proper physical development but also essential for cognitive development (The Canadian Sleep Society, 2006).

It’s multi-purpose!

In addition to its primary function, a Mayukori pillow may be heated and used in thermotherapy, as a travel pillow or even as a massage cushion.
